The Top Fifteen Boxers All Gamblers Should Know About.
By Michael Worden of Madwinners.com

The slate of fights scheduled for the first six months of 2007 are primed to be one of the best in recent memory. Aside from the MEGA FIGHT that is De la Hoya v Mayweather, a number of big name match ups, throughout the weight divisions, also promise great action both from the specator and wagering perspective. The biggest names in the sport are actually fighting REAL challengers for a change and giving the floundering sport a much needed shot in the arm. Even if that shot is one of sodium benzoate.

The reason the year is starting so marvelously is that many of the best "pound for pound" fighters in the world are matched up against other p4p contenders. These guys are moving up and down weight class, punching around promoters and, in some cases, fighting for respect or revenge as much as a hefty paycheck.

Coming up with my top fifteen p4p fighters was a daunting task. When wagering enters into the mix, raw talent and boxing skills are not necessarily the deciding factors. I also considered the degree of difficulty in the fighter's upcoming bout. Some of these guys might be higher or lower on other pundits lists but Madwinners is about gambling damn it! And these guys represent potential big money cash outs as well as dominant boxing performances. Ten of the top fifteen already have fights scheduled before July and we should expect at least two more of them to announce fights within the next month.

P4P:

The Top 3:

1) Floyd Mayweather (37-0) Welterweight - He's number one. That is it. Anyone on the planet who doesn't think that this guy is the best fighter alive either doesn't watch boxing or has a serious mental condition. The level of his competition is top tier, not the greatest of all time, but he is fighting in this era, not the one of yore. If he gets by De la Hoya on May 5th (easily his toughest test) and continues to fight a top level of opposition, (Cotto, Mosley, Spinks, Hatton) he could do down as not only the greatest of this time, but arguably, the greatest of all time.

2) Manny Pacquio (43-3-2) Jr. Lightweight - Not only does Manny bring speed, pure athleticism and heart into the ring, he also brings genuine excitement. The guy LOVES boxing and loves to win. He fights the best there is and every fight is a brawl. He can be hurt but, with laser fast hands and power, can lay out any one below 140. He seems to be taking his latest fight a bit lightly but look for a rematch with either J.M Marquez or M.A.Barrara by the end of the year.

3) Winky Wright (51-3-1) Middleweight - Winky is the highest ranked fighter on everyone's list who doesn't have a title. He's the "uncrowned" champ. More than two years ago he was looked at as the most avoided fighter in the sport. He couldn't draw a crowd and, even in defeat, he'd make the other guy look bad. But now, he's taking on anyone. He fought Mosley twice, Jermain Taylor and is primed to fight Bernard Hopkins in July if the two sides can come to terms. He's finally found a following and can pull in the crowds just as well as any of the big dogs.

The Best of the Rest:

4) Rafael Marquez (36-3) Bantamweight

5) Jermain Taylor (26-0-1) Middleweight

6) Ricky Hatton (42-0) Jr. Welterweight

7) Juan Manuel Marquez (46-3-1) Featherweights

8) Joe Calzaghe (42-0) Super Middleweight

9) Shane Mosley (44-4) Welterweight

10) Miguel Cotto (28-0) Welterweight

11) Jose Luis Castillo (55-7-1) Jr. Welterweight

12) Joel Cassamayor (34-3-1) Lightweight

13) Oscar De la Hoya (38-4) Jr. Middleweight

14) Ivan Calderon (27-0) Strawweight

15) Wlad Klitchko (47-3) Heavyweight
